For the government to give some consideration to the Finnish model of education
We want the government to consider the impact and benefits of the Finnish model of education on young people, their emotional well being, their experience of being in education and their academic outcomes.
The Finnish model generates higher academic achievements, reduced hours in schools, equal focus on vocational learning and complete equity in funding for schools.
Mental health issues in children and young people are increasing and there is robust evidence to suggest that high levels of pressure from school impact this significantly.
We are also calling for the government to get informed regarding what children and young people can and cannot do in the context of any brain development stage being experienced, in particular around the way that ‘behaviour’ is managed. We are also asking the government to consider adapting the secondary school day in line with the changes around young people’s circadian rhythm ie start and end the school day later.
