In the Philippines, bullying in schools is becoming a growing concern. Bullying creates a slew of issues for both the victim and the bully. Students want a safe haven at home and at school, and problems with bullies make the victim feel insecure. Bullying must be taken seriously, and educators, administrators, parents, and the entire community must cooperate to find solutions.

Bullying can have long-term negative psychological consequences for a bully's victim. A victim will often suffer as a result of the abuse because he is ashamed or believes that if he tells, nothing will change. He might also be afraid of retaliation. A bully's victim may become fearful of others and unable to cope socially. A victim may withdraw, and his schoolwork may suffer as a result. A victim may retaliate by bullying someone he perceives to be weaker, perpetuating the problem.

A bully may suffer from bullying issues for the rest of his or her life. The Center for Problem-Oriented Policing offers some explanations for why a bully chooses to pick on someone weaker, such as domestic violence and peer pressure. If the bully's peers agree that someone is socially different, the bully's behavior may be encouraged. According to a study conducted by the Fight Crime Organization, nearly 60% of boys classified as bullies in grades 6–9 were convicted of at least one crime by the age of 24. Because the bully may be subjected to abuse at home or is having difficulty adjusting at school, he lashes out at someone who is weaker.

Bullying is not acceptable. It's never acceptable. It's never a good idea. Doing it never makes you look good. You always have the option of doing something else. Be the type of person who is intelligent and self-assured enough to make friends with everyone you meet. You're sending the message that you're self-assured enough to care less about what others think. It would be wonderful if we could all stick together and provide clear understanding in each other's lives. We should all make an effort to help those who are in need.
