The United States of America is at war with the COVID-19 virus.  In our time of unprecedented need, “Essential Workers” have stepped up to serve.  Nurses, doctors, mental health workers, medical technicians, hospital support staff, EMTs, police, firemen and grocery store employees have all placed themselves in grave danger in order to care for the citizens of America.

Every minute, we are hearing horror stories from the front lines. Nurses are working without protective medical equipment, doctors are sleeping in garages to protect their children from infection, fireman and police are losing half their squads to quarantine and volunteering for extra shifts to fill the void, social workers are continuing with home visits to make sure marginalized families have no break in mental health treatment, custodians are sanitizing hospitals to reduce risk of infection transmission and grocery store clerks are keeping shelves filled so we can all eat.  These selfless heroes need to know that the country understands and appreciates their service and sacrifice.

Councilwoman Risa Clay (NJ) and Gretchen Morgan, LCSW are proposing a new GI Bill for Essential Workers. This bill would immediately forgive all student loan debt for essential workers and their families who worked or volunteered during the COVID-19 pandemic in America. Please sign to show your support for this legislation. Thank you.
