Why this petition matters

Started by Rasumi

Having Chess as a compulsory subject in our school's curriculum will improve our learners scores in Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Literacy. Current scenario is that the public school system has chess as an extra curricular activity by choice. This is not on! I do believe that the introduction of Chess in schools will be very beneficial to young and old! It will certainly raise the cognitive levels of many a learner. More than 30 countries including the US, India and Russia has chess as a subject in their curricula but what about us? Let's be part of building our nation's education system. There is very good grounds to lobby for Chess to be included in the curriculum.

"We cannot solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them." ALBERT Einstein.

Policy makers in Education should seriously act on behalf of our need to raise the standard of Mathematics, Language and Natural Sciences in South Africa.

Let's develop : creativity, memory, concentration, visualization skills, mathematical skills of problem solving, logic, reasoning, discipline, good self esteem, good sportsmanship, confidence, patience, spatial skills and determination.
