Better pay for Teaching Assistants and Teachers

I am a supply Teaching Assistant one of many who can not get a full time permanent job. With zero hours contracts and short term contracts there is so much uncertainty with being a TA, not knowing how much money you will be earning on a regular basis. Many staff are forced to have second jobs or leave the profession completely. On top of this there is the insult of the level of pay, with some full time TA’s earning as little as £900 a month. They are expected to work hard, go above and beyond “as there are others who would welcome a job!” Some are expected to work through breaks and lunchtimes preparing work for the children or covering staff absences or administering  first aid ( while some are expected to perform medical procedures such as checking blood sugars of diabetic children) all this on a meagre salary. Isn’t it time Teaching Assistants and Teaching Staff were paid a wage they can live off?
