An Open VCAA started this petition to Department of Education and Training Victoria

Dear students, parents and teachers,

On 30 December 2020, high school students across Victoria open their phones to read their VCE results. Some are elated - many, not so much. For all, these few numbers are the culmination of many years of hard work.

It only makes sense, then, that all students should be able to access their exam results in full. To see not just the end result of a study score, but also their written exam papers with marks and assessor's comments.

And yet, right now, there is a fee of $25.55 per report. For some, this may be perfectly affordable. But many, upon seeing such cost, are deterred from inspecting the exam. And perhaps they didn't get to see that they should have received 3 marks more - all the difference for tertiary admissions and their future.

Currently, students are also limited to an 'inspection time' of 15 minutes per written exam. How could you possibly know for sure whether you were right or wrong?

VCAA only does this because for them it is much simpler. To just spit out results, even when a few are askew, so people are generally satisfied.

Good enough for VCAA, but this isn't good enough for you.

What we need is simple: four changes for an open VCAA.

An open VCAA should:
- refund fees for 2020 Exam Inspection applicants
- allow unlimited time to request and inspect exams
- provide Statement of Marks and Exam Inspection by default for future students
- produce easily accessible documentation explaining the mark appeal process to students, parents and teachers.

Come on, VCAA. Doing this should be your #1 priority at the start of 2021. Show us the marks. Show us what you got.

We know in our increasingly polarized democracy that petitions have a low success rate, but whether you support free information in principle or because you want to apply for an Exam Inspection without fear, please sign this.
