Why this petition matters

Started by Ben Burns

In the land of the free because of the brave all men and women are created equal; to live out their dreams. For many people of the United States, that dream is to serve the very country that gave them the rights that we enjoy today. Mostly everyone can join the military except people with physical disabilities.

Why can't people with physical disabilities serve in the United States military?

Well, if we answered that question we could look back 100 years where, in order to serve, you needed to be able to storm beaches and live in trenches. Where that might still be true to this day, there are jobs in the military that can be done by people who are physically disabled. If we look at technological advancements in the past 50 years, more and more jobs are become less, if not physical at all such as flying unmanned aircraft, working with sonar and radar, working with the D.O.D in the intelligence area and many more.

What if you are medically discharged from the military and you want back in?

As of now you have to go through a grueling process to see if you can still efficiently do your job, post injury. Many people have served and are currently serving in the military that are "disabled".

The solution to this issue that w,e as a nation, can come to is to allow hard working physically disabled people to become either active duty or reserve enlisted military personnel. Start off small and go with one branch, and then slowly bring in the new regulations and standard for the new incoming personnel. Many people are already on board so I ask you, are you willing to make history?
