The Department for Work and Pensions are proposing to close Farnworth Job Centre. This office provides a vital service to the public and communities that it serves. The people who use Farnworth Job Centre will instead be expected to travel to offices in Great Moor Street and Blackhorse Street,Bolton. The additional time and expense required to travel to these job centres will not be reimbursed by the Department For Work and Pensions.
At a time when the DWP are expecting more people to engage more frequently at face to face interviews, more job centres should be opened rather than closing the ones that we already have.As failing to attend interviews is one of the main reasons for receiving a sanction, making people travel further to attend an interview will only increase the likelihood that more sanctions will be issued.
The Parlimentary Constituency of Bolton South East has a high rate of children classed as living in poverty. The Child Poverty Action Group reported in 2016 that over 34% of children were living in poverty in the area.
The local Farnworth and Kearsley food bank issued over 12,000 emergency food parcels between 2012 and 2016.
The valuable service that Farnworth Job Centre provides in helping people find work is a valuable social asset to the community that it serves.Saving Farnworth Job Centre from closure protects the social value of our welfare state.
