South Hunsley School plans to close our pool in July 2016 so they can redevelop the building. The pool has served the community, school pupils, swimming club and thousands of swimmers for the past 50 years.
WHY SAVE OUR POOL?
Neighbouring communities raised funds to help build the pool fifty years ago - our money, taxes and sponsorship have provided facilities for:
Swimming lessons and galas for Primary School and South Hunsley pupils
A base for the 200 member South Hunsley Swimming Club, the largest in the East Riding
Elderly and Disabled swimmers
Master Swimmers and Triathletes
Sub Aqua Club
Lifesaving and Water Safety Courses
Early Bird Adult Sessions
Water Polo Club
Out of School/ Holiday Clubs
Pool Parties for local community children
Public and Leisure swimming sessions
A social hub for the community
Employment and training
The School decided to close the pool without consulting the community or the South Hunsley Swimming Club - no pool, no club.
Our population now numbers about 28,000 people. New housing will ensure continued growth, increasing the need for a pool.
The next nearest public pool is six to eight miles away, already heavily used and not easily accessible by public transport. That pool is too shallow for sub aqua training and cannot fully accommodate the Swimming Club.
TIME IS RUNNING OUT
We have less than six months to save the pool. Please support us by signing the petition.
