Get Gender Neutral toilets in schools, colleges and universitys
Many young people feel unsafe or uncomfortable going to the bathroom or toilet in school, college or university because there isn't a gender neutral toilet. Some places do have them but most don't, young people need to feel comfortable and safe when going to the bathroom.
I myself quite often feel uncomfortable using the other toilets because I don't feel like I belong in them. People I know have been harassed leaving bathrooms because they don't look like they belong to that gender or because they have used the disabled bathroom so they feel comfortable within themselves.
People shouldn't feel like they can't be themselves when out in public, we are part of a diverse community but we don't act like it. It needs to change, people shouldn't have to worry about being harassed or feeling unsafe while doing something as basic as going to the toilet. They should feel comfortable with who they are and not worrying if someone is going to say or do something against them.
Unfortunately it isn't just bathrooms, people aren't being educated about the LGBTQIA+ community. Children should be taught that there isn't just two genders and one sexuality, they should know that they don't have to be conformed into what is deemed as a 'perfect' person. They should be able to be who they are at a young age, we tell them to be themselves but when they are they are ridiculed for it. When I was younger I didn't know that there was such a thing as being trans or non binary, when I did I came out as was ridiculed because I didn't say when I was younger. How was I going to say anything when I was younger if I didn't know about it?

Many young people feel unsafe or uncomfortable going to the bathroom or toilet in school, college or university because there isn't a gender neutral toilet. Some places do have them or have ‘mixed’ bathrooms which are really purposed for staff/disabled people. But far too many institutions don’t have either. Young people need to feel safe and comfortable when going to the bathroom, especially when education can already be challenging for young trans people
I personally feel uncomfortable using cisgendered toilets as I don't feel like I belong in them. People I know have been harassed leaving bathrooms because they don't look like they belong to that gender or because they have used the disabled bathroom so they feel comfortable within themselves.
Not enough action is being taken on this in my college and it feels as though trans student issues are being swept under the rug. It’s unacceptable and needs to be taken seriously.
