Aspen Cummings-Huddleston started this petition to Denver Public Schools

In the Denver Public Schools district, diversity lacks. Especially in our education. We are Aspen, Jackson, and Ryan. We are 5th graders at Swigert International School. We want to have more diverse education in schools in Denver.

In our curriculum, we rarely, if ever, talk about women’s accomplishments or LGBTQIA+ issues. This is a problem because our classmates, and students all around the world who don't learn about these topics, could grow up sheltered and not know how to support the queer, genderqueer, black, mexican, and all other diverse communities. Not knowing can also make the children believe that it is wrong because they had never seen it before.

This is not an issue that is talked about very much. Although, it is very important. Diverse children can be teased by the other children because they had been so sheltered. To shed some light on this awful issue, we interviewed a few students in each 3rd-5th grade at Swigert International School. Sign this petition to help support our cause.
