As parents within Denver Public Schools, we write to petition you to consider implementation of free, school-based learning pods.

The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Center for Disease Control both strongly advocate for in-person learning over remote learning. In person interaction allows for social-emotional growth and access to vital school services for children at need. While we recognize the need for remote learning given rising case counts in the community, we are asking that the district consider implementing free, school-based learning pods with small cohorts of students during the remote learning period. Doing this at the district level will ensure that this resource is accessible by all and prevent worsening educational inequalities particularly amongst communities of color. Further, it will help to protect our local school communities from disinvestment as more affluent families consider private options. Our children cherish our local schools and depend on them greatly. We feel this solution may provide our children with the growth and sense of normalcy they need during this uncertain time.
