Why this petition matters

Hello,

We are from Prairie middle school doing a group Civic Action Project trying to request a civil change. We want to change policies here in Colorado revolving around dog laws and breed discrimination. We contacted shelters around Aurora and Denver asking if breeds are discriminated against or treated differently. The responses helped show that some dogs are not even allowed in certain shelters and we know in Denver you need a breed restoration permit to own certain breeds like pit bulls and pit bull terriers in Denver.  We think this policy Denver law Sec. 8-67, should be removed to stop the dogs from being discriminated against and not put a bad reputation towards the breed. We are concerned civilians and we strongly disagree with these laws because personally, we have dogs inside the category. I'm very concerned that they can take my dog away and potentially put our dogs down just because of their breed. Some people think that they are dangerous and are always aggressive even though that is not the case. As a community, we think we should change our attitude toward certain dog breeds. If our attitudes change we can help the dogs in the community of Denver and increase the shelter budget because more people will adopt them.
