Regenerate Denton started this petition to Denton City Council

"This land is your land, this land is my land" Woody Guthrie

In the 2014 bond election the community of Denton voted to spend $1,005,000 on "Property Acquisition (For Parks and Libraries)" but only received the money to spend in January 2020 and are "still shopping".

In the 2019 bond election the community of Denton voted to spend 5 million on Land Acquisition for open spaces and park land. We were not told upfront that only 2 million will be spent in FY 20-21 and the remaining 3 million in FY 23-24.

Even then how can we trust the city won't wait 6 years like they have for the 2014 monies?

We the undersigned find this unacceptable and today want:

1) the reasons for both delays

2) why the delays were not communicated to the public upfront

3) how to prevent such misleading practices in future, i.e. capital improvements and bonds board?

4) an audit of the process, i.e. extra interest payed, bond rating affected

5) options to spend the 6 million promptly, for example 2 million/year for 3 years excepting large purchases that may require a larger sum like maybe 4 million for the entire 98 acres at Shady Oaks and the 1200 block of S Loop 288, etc- so as to preserve concurrent habitat.

The health of our local community is dependent on clean air, healthy soil and pure water and nothing contributes more than our trees, healthy soils, vegetation; Green Infrastructure. So, with our F rated air here in Denton we simply cannot afford to further compromise them by handing Denton on a platter to irresponsible developers- Our Health Over Their Wealth.
