Utah Dental Insurance Companies reimbursement fees rank dead last among all 50 states in the United States.  The lowest has been Dental Select.  Other dental insurance companies have joined the “race to the bottom.”  These include Delta Dental, EMI, Select Health, and DMBA.  This is creating a huge, negative impact on dentistry in Utah.  Dental students and dental hygiene students are leaving our great state in great numbers to go elsewhere.  How can new students pay their student loans with such low, low fees? The problem is critical as our state’s population continues to grow.  Utah Dental Insurance Companies need to raise rates a minimum of 25%, probably closer to a 50% increase, so that dental practices can cover their costs and take good, quality care of their patients and dental team members.  In fact, Utah dentists are telling their own children and grandchildren to seek different career choices as dentistry is not viable.  New dentists are graduating $400,000-$600,000 in debt.  These new dentists have been in school 8 years with no income and now they have an immense debt load.  This needs to change and this requires that Utah dental insurance companies increase their rates by at least 25% with regular annual fee increases.  This will also allow dental practices to increase the pay to their team members, give them benefits, and contribute to each person’s retirement plan.  Please join our crusade for fairness.  Let’s rescue Utah dentistry!  The time is now and it’s critical.
