Why this petition matters

I, Neil Janzen Sarmiento, a Student form Don Honorio Ventura State University strives to save Sierra Madre from deforestation due to the development and construction of the "Kaliwa Dam" .

3 MAIN REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD SIGN

1.Put Many Live in Danger

The planned 60-meter Kaliwa Dam would be installed within a zone of two active tectonics represented by the Philippine Fault Zone and the Valley Fault System, while Manila is now planning for the Major One Marikina West Valley Fault earthquake. The location of the Agos Dam is just 7-8 kilometres from the Philippine Fault Line (Infanta Fault). Whether there is an active fault near the planned dam,Two major problems can emerge at the site and would have a major effect on the design of the proposed dams, namely: 1.) seismicity induced by earthquakes occurring in the active fault zone; and 2.) dam-foundation deformation caused by active fault movement. Many of the dam sites planned will be prone to extreme peak acceleration and are vulnerable to a high degree of seismicity in general.

2. It Violates The Law

Signing the bilateral loan agreement for the Kaliwa Dam Project through ODA would essentially violate the R.A. 8173 as well as R.A. To 7586. Up until now, the Dumagat-Remontados have never given free, prior and informed consent to this construction as required by R. A. From 8173. As required by R.A., there was no Environmental Compliance Certificate either. 7586 and yet advisers  advisers have scheduled the signing on November 11, 2018.

3. Ignores the Climate Change Effect

A few months back, the failure of the dams in Vietnam and Myanmar, the Itogon disaster, the landslide in Naga City, Cebu, and the most recent incident in Natonin, Mountain Province, are sufficient indicators that it is no longer possible to disregard the effects of climate change. They should teach the Philippines to adhere to the World Commission on Dams' suggestion that they no longer build major dams.
