Open the Presidential Primaries Nationwide
26,000,000 registered voters were barred from participating in the Presidential Primary this year. That's almost a third of voters in states with closed primaries. It is clear our primary election system needs wholesale reform.
We have a rare opportunity to make a revolutionary change RIGHT NOW. During each of the conventions in July, the Party Chairs relinquish their power to the thousands of delegates selected in the primaries. Those delegates, many of them regular folks like us, have the power to change the rules for all future Presidential Primaries. And, over the last 100 years, they have done so multiple times.

Open the Presidential Primaries Nationwide!
The 2016 Presidential Primary has been one of the most important and competitive elections in a generation. It was also a deeply flawed process that threatens the very fabric of our democracy.
26.3 million independent voters have been barred from participating altogether, and millions more registered Democrats and Republicans were prevented from voting for the candidate of their choice because of a patchwork of restrictive registration rules. From New York to Arizona, voters across the country -- whose tax dollars fund the primary process -- were denied the right to fully participate.
The Democratic and Republican Parties have been empowered by the Supreme Court to establish the rules regarding which voters can participate in Presidential Primaries.
In July 2016, both Parties will adopt rules for all future Presidential Primaries.
Both Parties could change their rules for future Presidential Primaries and require that every state party organization conduct primaries that are open to all voters who wish to participate, regardless of their voter registration status.
Therefore, we demand the Republican National Convention Committee on Rules and Order of Business and the Democratic National Convention Standing Committee on Rules to take such steps as are necessary to adopt rules that require all state party organizations to conduct open Presidential Primaries.
