When someone becomes disabled & applies for SSDI benefits they’re already having a hard time the application process makes things even more difficult for them. SSDI can take however long they want to in making an initial determination & in responding to an appeal. The wait for a court date can take over a year. This is entirely too long & many lose everything & are forced to choose between homelessness and suicide. Additionally many times, despite overwhelming evidence backing an applicant’s claim, a case is denied because of outdated guidelines, lack of knowledge about certain conditions or simply because SSDI doctors “get paid to say no” People who have worked for years and paid taxes are denied benefits that they deserve and many choose to end their own lives simply because they do not have the means to survive the open ended & unnecessarily long determination process. As tax payers in the richest country in the world we deserve better. Being disabled isn’t a crime yet for many it becomes a death sentence due to the horrendous SSDI process. As American taxpayers we demand that the SSDI system be revised so that the disabled amongst us do not suffer needlessly. We want revised& reasonable guidelines that will enable legitimate cases to be approved in a reasonable & definite timeframe
