There have not been nearly enough DNC-approved polls to accurately measure where the public stands on the field of 2020 Democratic candidates. Candidates like Andrew Yang, Tom Steyer, Tulsi Gabbard and Cory Booker could have surged in support and we would have no way of knowing.

2 polls approved by the DNC have been released since the December debate. The DNC’s response has been that they extended the polling period from starting on November 18 to starting on November 14, but this doesn’t make any difference. Polls from mid-November do not reflect changes to the race since the December debate.

In order to keep the threshold fair, the DNC must keep the stage the same as in December so that at the very least, candidates that were on track to meet the requirements will have another chance, since it is in no way their fault that polls have not been released to reflect growth.

Andrew Yang raised $16.5 million in Q4. Whether you support him or not, that does not look like a campaign that is about to end. In fact, it shows a 65% increase in fundraising from Q3. It is more than Amy Klobuchar’s $11.4 million, yet she has qualified for the debate.

Avoid any concerns over unfairness, and simply keep the debate stage the same as December. It is not right to say that resources are better spent defeating President Trump when the whole point of the primary is to find the candidate who is best-suited to defeat the President at the ballot this November.
