Why this petition matters

Started by Rocio Hernandez

On April 25, 2016 Democracy Now featured an entire show with Seymour Hersh, a journalist, who on the show applauded Russia's intervention in Syrian and called it "effective" though Russia has killed at least 2000 Syrian civilians and bombed multiple hospitals. Hersh also promoted a conspiracy theory that it was not the Assad regime who committed the sarin gas attacks on civilians.

Democracy Now has had several White men on to talk about the Syrian war in recent months and very few Syrians or Middle Easterners. Shouldn't Democracy Now have some progressive Syrians on to counter misconceptions that come in part from getting to rarely the voices of Syrians themselves?

Leila Al-Shami and Robin Yassin-Kassab the authors of "Burning Country: Syrians in Revolution and War" are on a book tour in North America and just had 4 events in New York City 3-4 days before the show and yet Democracy Now still chose to just have on conspiracy theorist and Russian apologist Seymour Hersh for an entire show instead of allowing Syrian authors to come on and speak about the war.

We are asking Democracy Now to do the right thing as a progressive show and have on progressive Syrian voices, such as civil society activists and human rights activists, to talk about the Syrian war.
