Close the bank account of a group promoting a terrorist

In April, the Austrian-Arab Culture Center (OKAZ) sponsored a lecture by the convicted terrorist Leila Khaled.

Leila Khaled is a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and was personally involved in the hijacking of two airplanes. To this day, she supports violence against innocent Israeli civilians, including suicide bombings. She also describes the terror group ISIS as a "Zionist-American organization."

OKAZ holds a bank account at the Austrian bank BAWAG PSK.  The Austrian government has yet to investigate OKAZ and the bank is not closing OKAZ's account.

BAWAG happens to be owned by the U.S. financial firms, Cerberus Capital Management and GoldenTree Asset Management.  Cerberus owns a 52% controlling interest in the bank BAWAG and has the authority to push this issue.

Unfortunately, both firms are aware of the issue and are doing nothing. As a recent article published in The Jerusalem Post reports, both financial firms were asked about the situation and both declined to comment.  It is disconcerting that these companies did not immediately demand that BAWAG take action, or at a minimum release a statement condemning terrorism.

It is within these firms’ best interests to press BAWAG to drop OKAZ as a client, lest they be involved in promoting terrorism.
