Demand “The Right to Stay Put”: End Gentrification-Based Displacement of Minority Groups
Why this petition matters

For the elderly, low-income, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and other minority groups, gentrification often results in displacement. Forced evictions aren’t the only forms of displacement, though. Cultural changes in a neighborhood and limited local affordable housing and amenities are some examples of indirect displacement. Displacement can have lasting impacts on mental health, physical health, financial futures and educational paths. According to the Migration Data Portal, by the end of 2020, 55 million Americans were displaced. Take a stand against displacement and for the right to stay put. Urge our local governments to incentivize more inclusive neighborhood revitalization, to create and preserve affordable housing stock and to protect renters from displacement pressures.
