We, the residents of Luton, have watched in horror as the crisis in Gaza has unfolded since October 2023. The world's leaders may choose to ignore this catastrophe, but we cannot. Our local officials, who should be our voice and advocate for peace and justice, remain silent. This includes our own Mayor Yaqub Hanif.

Mayor Hanif has repeatedly failed to respond to his constituents' pleas for him to publicly call for a ceasefire in Gaza. Instead of using his position to advocate for peace and justice, he has reported those who request action from him as harassment.

This is not what we expect from an elected official. It is not just about politics; it's about humanity - women, children, men - all being targeted indiscriminately in this conflict while those with power do nothing.

We feel helpless at the current status quo but refuse to be silenced or intimidated by those who are supposed to represent us. We demand that Mayor Yaqub Hanif resigns immediately due to his failure to act on behalf of his constituents during this critical time.
