Demand School Safety and End Poverty in Milwaukee WI Neighborhoods

Demand School Safety and End Poverty in Milwaukee WI Neighborhoods
The Issue
Petition: Demand Action for Safer Schools and Stronger Neighborhoods in Milwaukee, WI
To: Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) and Local Government Officials
We, the undersigned, demand immediate action to improve Milwaukee’s poverty-stricken neighborhoods and ensure a safer, more supportive learning environment for all students in Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS).
Milwaukee’s children deserve a future free from the daily struggles of poverty and the dangers of unsafe school environments. Our communities face the following urgent issues:
1. Unsafe Learning Environments: Students are increasingly at risk in MPS schools due to violence, neglect, and lack of resources. Our schools must become safe havens where every child can focus on their education without fear.
2. Poverty in Neighborhoods: Many neighborhoods across Milwaukee suffer from extreme poverty, which directly impacts our children’s ability to succeed academically and live healthy lives. Families lack access to essential resources such as quality housing, healthcare, and job opportunities, leading to a cycle of hardship that affects students both in and out of the classroom.
We Call for Immediate Action on the Following:
1. Increased School Safety Measures: Implement comprehensive safety programs within MPS schools, including increased funding for security, mental health resources, and conflict resolution programs to create an environment where students can thrive.
2. Improved School Resources: Allocate more funding to under-resourced schools to ensure that students have access to modern technology, updated facilities, and high-quality educators who are supported by safe working conditions.
3. Investment in Poverty-Stricken Neighborhoods: Work with local government officials to invest in community infrastructure, job creation programs, affordable housing, and youth development initiatives that address the root causes of poverty and provide our families with the support they need to succeed.
4. Community and School Collaboration: Establish stronger partnerships between schools, parents, local organizations, and government agencies to collaboratively address both educational and neighborhood issues, ensuring that all voices are heard and solutions are implemented.
Our children cannot wait any longer. They deserve safe schools and strong communities to grow up in. We urge MPS and our local government to take immediate, meaningful action to create positive change in Milwaukee’s poverty-stricken neighborhoods and to make our schools safer for every student.
We are looking to gather 230,000 signatures, representing the voices of Milwaukee’s Black, African American, native, brown, white and Indigenous communities, to show the overwhelming demand for these necessary changes.

This petition represents the collective voice of the people of Milwaukee who believe in a better future for our children. Let’s make that future a reality by demanding action now!
