Recently, our financial burdens were brought into sharp focus when we discovered that Travas Deal, the CEO of our utilities, received a $150,000 pay raise, coupled with a guaranteed six-month severance package. I was shocked and outraged to see him posting about lavish hunting trips on Instagram, boasting of his military prowess while we, the residents, face increasing financial strain.

Our city council members and the utilities board, those elected or appointed to serve our interest, have failed us. Instead of protecting residents and working towards affordable utilities, they've seemingly prioritized the financial well-being of a single executive. It is apparent that they are out of touch with the needs of the community they are supposed to serve.

When the burden of rising costs becomes unbearable for many, it shakes the foundation of our community. Instead of helping, the leadership here has continuously let us down by endorsing such unwarranted salary hikes.
