Why this petition matters

Started by Cheyenne Brooks

Middletown Property Group owns BSU Rentals and boasts having over 75,000,000 dollars in assets, but consistently runs inadequate and dangerous housing. BSU Rentals claims no affiliation or endorsement from Ball State University yet both parties benefit immensely from the need students have for housing near campus or work. Meanwhile, tenants suffer from deadly black mold, constant sewage backup, flooding, and long-needed maintenance which leaves whole rooms inaccessible. Tenants are not only made to pay excessive rents, they are charged security deposits and so-called “redecorating fees,” which clearly do not go towards maintenance. We are protesting to demand that Ball State University and Middletown Property Group accept full accountability for these conditions. Tenants, students, and the Muncie community demand clean, affordable, and secure housing now!

Demands:

1.Middletown Property Group will directly and promptly address every tenant about their housing grievances.
2.Middletown Property Group will present a plan of action to correct the housing issues and guarantee the tenants a timeline for the expected repairs.
3.Middletown Property Group will justly compensate tenants for the time with damages it has failed to repair all the while demanding rent and charging extra fees.
4.Middletown Property Group will provide full and equal maintenance to all units with no financial burden put upon tenants.
5.Ball State University must stand alongside tenants, students, and the community to materially change the housing conditions of this city and hold Middletown Property Group accountable.
