Over 2,000 children have been separated from their mothers and fathers as part of the Trump administration's new “zero-tolerance policy” in the last 30 days. Many parents haven’t been given any information about where their children have gone and despite President Trump’s executive order saying more family separations won’t occur, there is no plan to reunite these children with their families. This is unconscionable.
As Texans who believe strongly in family values, we believe our Texas state leaders must do more to stop this unconstitutional practice and bring families back together.
Sign the petition and demand that President Trump and Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton, take emergency measures to reunite families and stop detaining children in inhumane conditions.
The federal government is violating the Constitutional rights of thousands of immigrant children and their parents who have been separated at the border. As Attorney General, Ken Paxton should ensure that all detained migrant children and their parents are reunited and investigate the health and safety quality of detention centers.
State officials have allowed at least 15 immigrant youth shelters to detain more children than their child-care licenses allow.
In addition, news accounts indicate administration officials have been sending babies and other young children forcibly separated from their mothers and fathers to three so called “tender age” shelters located along the Rio Grande Valley. Nelson pointed to the story that said doctors and lawyers who have visited these Valley shelters are full of children “in crisis” crying inconsolably.
Join the growing bipartisan coalition of elected officials who are seeking solutions to stop these family separations.
Sign the petition to demand that President Trump and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton stand up for family values and reunite all detained migrant children with their families.
