Demand North Lanarkshire Council to demolish and rebuild Cumbernauld Town Centre

Demand North Lanarkshire Council to demolish and rebuild Cumbernauld Town Centre

The Issue

As a lifelong resident of Cumbernauld, I have witnessed the steady decline of our town centre under the management of North Lanarkshire Council. Our population exceeds 50,000, yet we lack a vibrant and modern town centre that reflects our community's needs and aspirations. The current state of affairs is disheartening - there are limited activities for children/teenagers, a scarcity of beneficial shops that would make actually be used. Existing businesses are burdened with rents for a deteriorating building. Recent storms have caused damage to the town centre causing shops to close without warning which is so disrespectful. The residents of cumbernauld cannot wait until 2027 for the demolition of the town centre. This should be actioned now to ensure there are no further delays by NLC. I will not stay around to watch North lanarkshire council run cumbernauld further into deprivation than they already have, I want better for My children and my family.

The council's focus seems misdirected towards constructing horrendous roundabouts years ago and purchasing the town centre back when it was going to be closed down. Rather than investing in building a new centre for the people they would rather repair what is already broken . It is time to address this issue head-on. We need to bring Cumbernauld into the 21st century by creating an engaging and thriving hub that caters to all residents' needs.

We urge North Lanarkshire Council to take immediate action - demolish the old structures and initiate plans for a new beginning. This isn't just about improving aesthetics or increasing commercial activity; it's about enhancing quality of life for all residents who call Cumbernauld home.

Let us come together as a community and demand change from those in power. Sign this petition today if you believe in creating a better future for Cumbernauld!
