Woodstock Cape Town started this petition to Mayor Cape Town and

We the rate paying residents of Woodstock demand that the City of Cape Town take control of the illegal occupation of the Woodstock Hospital site, at Erven 13130 , 13131, 13124, 13135, 13139, 13140 , 13143, 13144, 13146, 14011, 14013, 14014 and 14015 in Woodstock , Cape Town. We demand that the city applies all standing rules and regulations to the site and provides us with a clear strategy for the way forward which should include plans to either renovate or demolish the buildings. We support the call to use the site for the development of mixed income housing / retail development in line with the existing feel and population density of Woodstock and we believe that occupation of such a development should be managed by the City in a controlled manner.

It is important to note that the following items contribute to the petition being issued :

° The illegal occupation has exceeded what we as residents deem a reasonable head count based on the site footprint , the building is ill suited with regards to infrastructure and amenities evident in the fact that sewerage is leaking into the neighboring roads , the smell permeating the houses adjacent and in close proximity. It is a very real safety concern , even more so due to Covid. It is overcrowded and posing a health risk.

° Illegal amendments / renovations have been completed to the existing structure , including plumbing and electrical work ,  which is in contravention of the various statutory provisions and / or by – Laws .

° Dumping , accumulated refuse and waste material is dumped, stored / deposited on the property.

° The building has deteriorated at an alarming rate , and is derelict in appearance

° Noise pollution and anti-social behavior

° Proliferation of property sales due to the deterioration of the area , with a corresponding dramatic decline in property values .

We have engaged the city , as individuals , in groups and via meetings with the Mayor , in his chambers , no constructive answers have been provided to date pertaining to plans , action envisaged

We as home owners , tax and rate payers demand that this matter be addressed urgently with the input of confirmed property owners within the affected area.
