Demand Facebook to Eliminate Bot and Spammer Accounts and Prohibit Sex Worker Ads/Content.
The Issue
As a concerned relative, I have noticed an alarming increase in the number of fake accounts on Facebook. These bot accounts are not only impersonal but also intrusive, taking over groups with spam posts. What's even more concerning is the exposure of minors to inappropriate content such as sex worker ads, reels, stories, etc. My niece uses Facebook and I am deeply troubled by what she may encounter on this platform.
Facebook is accessible to teenagers as young as 13 years old - some users may even be younger. It's disheartening that our society has come to a point where we're exposing our children to adult content at such an early age. This not only desensitizes them but also contributes significantly towards the decline in moral values worldwide.
According to a report by CNBC in 2019, nearly 5% of Facebook’s monthly active users are fake accounts. This equates to approximately 120 million fake profiles that could potentially be spreading harmful content or engaging in malicious activities.
We must hold Meta's Facebook accountable for their actions - or lack thereof - when it comes to managing these issues on their platform. We demand that they take immediate action by removing all bot accounts, blocking sex worker ads and eliminating spammer accounts from their site.
This isn't just about protecting one child; it's about safeguarding the innocence of millions of children worldwide who use this social media platform daily. Let us stand together against this blatant disregard for our children's safety online and insist on change from one of the world’s largest social media platforms.
Please sign this petition today if you believe in creating a safer online environment for all users – especially our children.
