On January 8th 2021, 24 year old Kwamena Ocran was murdered by Gaithersburg City Police. According to witnesses, officers shot Kwamena in the back at least four times and then continued to shoot him two more times as he lay on the ground incapacitated. Supposedly Christopher Sandmann (Howard County Disctrict Attourney) is debating sending the case to a grand jury for indictment. However in light of the brutality committed by Gaithersburg Police, the subsequent misconduct of the crime scene, the lack of transparency by Gaithersburg Police as well as the Howard County DA office only compulsion by the States Atourneys office or higher can move the family towards closure and justice. Every day that passes without a thorough investigation into the criminal actions of Gaithersburg City Police is another day our communities suffer under the terror inflicted by unaccountable "public servants". Any legitimate government agency should welcome the vindication of a public accounting of their actions. If it truly is a matter of "a few bad apples" the state should use its considerable powers to purge these bad actors and move forward together with the community stronger and safer. We demand Brian Frosh compel the States Attourneys Office of the State of Maryland to launch an immediate investigation into the murder of Kwamena Ocran as well as the subsequent misconduct by the offending officers and the Gaithersburg City Police Department as a whole.
