Demand Channel 4 to Respect Victims' Rights in "24 Hours in Police Custody"

The Issue

As someone personally affected by the insensitive portrayal of victims on the Channel 4 show, "24 Hours in Police Custody", I am calling for an immediate change. This show has been airing harrowing footage of victims without considering the impact it has on their families. Moreover, it is concerning that some families do not want their tragedy aired to the nation, yet they felt they had to co-operate, as they wanted to show the men they were rather than the victims they had become, but their pleas were ignored.

The show's approach not only disrespects those directly involved but also manipulates crucial information for dramatic effect. This misrepresentation can, and has lead to social media awareness and discussion, a lot of which has been extremely negative with one user writing “they deserved it”. If the show had not aired, this would not be up for national discussion therefore not causing any further distress.

Most disturbing is the thought that children of these victims will see this footage in future years. The psychological impact this could have on them is immeasurable and deeply troubling.

We must demand Channel 4 respect victim rights and consider the long-term effects before airing such sensitive content. It's time for responsible broadcasting that respects individual privacy while maintaining factual accuracy.

Please sign this petition urging Channel 4 to review its practices around "24 Hours in Police Custody".
