The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has a long history of using excessive and deadly force. In 2018 they were forced to pay $160000 to settle an excessive force lawsuit. On May 24, 2020 another incident of police brutality happened when CSPD responded to an incident and the suspect was killed while being subdued by officers. CSPD was responsible for the murder of De'Von Bailey in August of 2019. They shot Bailey in the back. All charges were dropped against the officers despite the fact that there was video footage of the murder as well as witnesses. There was no justice for Bailey.

Most recently, on June 1, 2020 Colorado Springs Police Officers used excessive force to restrain a Colorado Springs man. When asked to get on the ground the man complied and got on the ground and put his hands behind his back. Officers swarmed him, getting on top of the man and began to beat the man with their fists. It is clear that CSPD needs real change and real repercussions.

De'von Bailey's family will never have him back. His life was lost to the violence of this police department. His family and his community mourn him. There must be repercussions for the officers involved. There must be Justice for De'von Bailey. We cannot wait until CSPD kills another person in our community. ACTION MUST BE TAKEN NOW!

We are trying to reach the attention of Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers and DA Dan May as well as the Colorado Springs City Council Members to beg them to have the officers involved in these incidents fired and for new charges to be filed immediately. They need the required training. They need an independent review board. They need systems that hold them accountable for their actions. Our civil servants must take action to protect the citizens of Colorado Springs.
