Demand Accountability and Support for Students in Raytown School District
The Issue
I, like many other parents in the Raytown School District, am distressed and frustrated. Our children, including my own, have experienced bullying, physical and verbal abuse, and even drug exposure - problems that seem to be not thoroughly checked by those in positions of authority. This unacceptable situation is constantly being disregarded by the superintendent with no concrete action taken to rectify it.
It is heartbreaking to witness our children endure such trials while struggling to learn in an environment that is supposed to nurture and protect them. Instead of championing their future, we feel that some teachers and principals are targeting them unjustly, silencing their potentials, and overlooking the critical role they have undertaken.
This behavior within our educational system is not only equivocal to their commitment, but it also undermines basic human rights, with a 2017 study from the National Education Association revealing that school-based bullying affects nearly one-third of all students in the U.S. Additionally, physical violence or any form of physical contact between staff and students not only breaches the professional code of conduct, but it also goes against the state's child protection laws.
We can no longer stay silent. We urgently request an in-depth review of the behavior of Raytown's school staff. This includes conducting impartial investigations into any reports of unprofessional conduct and following due consequences for any negligent actions found. Furthermore, we call for a more protective environment for our children—a district where they can grow and learn without fear. It's time to prioritize our children's mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing over anything else. Stand with us. Sign this petition.
