GIVE DELVIEW STUDENTS THE PRIVILEGE TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA

Today (September 5th) was the first day of the 2017-2018 school year at Delview Secondary. We all arrived here only to find out; our administrators have blocked Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook from the wifi - preventing anybody from using it. They did this to solve the problem going on in classes, with kids on their phones most of the time. What they don't realize is that, during the day, THERE IS A PERIOD OF TIME WHERE WE AREN'T IN CLASS, aka lunch time or before/after school. But this wifi block prevents us from using social media AT ALL. That includes lunch. If a kid is taking their privilege of education for granted, that's their own problem. But if it really bothers teachers that kids are on their phones, maybe they should enforce more strict rules and not be pushovers. Like for crying out loud, we're not even allowed phones at flex time anymore. But need I remind you that people actually use their phones for crucial things at flex time? Like goal setting, planning, listening to music, using google, getting notes from google classroom etc etc etc? I know, I probably just sound like a whiny crybaby of a teenager because I don't get to go on my phone at all. Well, it has actually not only angered me, but the entire school, because PHONES ARENT ONLY USED FOR SOCIAL MEDIA. ENFORCE STRICTER AND BETTER RULES AND LET US GO ON OUR PHONES IN OUR FREE TIME.
