Delta Airlines is currently serving shrimp, one of the top most dangerous allergens, on all of its flights from the United States to Europe. The company does not take into account patrons with airborne shellfish allergies. While reactions to allergens such as peanuts mostly occur from particles of protein from unclean surfaces, shellfish is different in that severe reactions can be triggered from exposure when served hot. This situation can become extremely problematic to shellfish allergy patients if over 200 people surrounding them are eating shrimp. It’s not as simple as “choosing another meal” and people need to be made aware! Recently, I had to de-plane as I was traveling to France for my fiancé’s birthday because of the danger this change posed. This happened only a month after an ER visit from sitting near shrimp in a restaurant. Not only have I not seen the love of my life in 7 months, but because of these circumstances, I am being kept from him and his family indefinitely. Even if Air France had not been on strike, I am an Atlanta native and have been loyal to Delta since birth. It is time that they show this same loyalty back to all of us as customers! I am a hardworking mother and educator and this experience has been devastating to our family. Please support requesting that Delta offer at least 1 allergy friendly flight from the United States to Europe per day. Individuals that need to fly will do so regardless and patrons with a shellfish allergy that truly need to be safe will have an option for air travel to Europe (and any other destination where this is the current policy).
