When given a choice between blended or remote learning, who would have thought that it would lead to NO synchronous remote learning for blended students. For remote, although there is some synchronous several days a week, it is roughly the same live hours as the blended, 4 hours. Four hours of live instruction a week. The poor teachers have an insane schedule trying to accommodate this model. If this had been made clear earlier, I wonder if more people, including myself, would have advocated for the school to adopt online only if it meant a more regular live class day. Seriously, 4 hours of live teaching a week?

My daughter was doing great in school before remote learning began. Afterwards many of her teachers were missing in action, difficult to reach, and provided minimal live instruction. It wasn't until 2 months into the pandemic that I was contacted by the school that she was having difficulty. Until that point, no one was checking in with the parents. High functioning students were left to fend for themselves while the schools were talking about successes. There are too many stories like mine. In the fall we're facing potentially similar problems with shortened academic schedules for students who received substandard instruction during the spring. We need high quality consistent instruction so our children's education isn't another casualty of this pandemic. We need to be NY SMART!!!!

DOE remote learning in Spring was such a huge failure that even grades were banned (the only metric to gauge its success). DOE had all summer to prepare a robust program by ensuring that daily live instruction occurs for every core subject. Teachers must be held responsible for ensuring that they meet daily, weekly and semester milestones both in terms of live instruction and units covered. We need grades to assess kids’ performance to ensure they are mastering the material.

The remote learning experience we had from last school year was disorganized and not to the par of regular in person learning at NYC public school. My child’s learning has suffered due to it.

If Remote learning is imposed on our kids almost every day - for the upcoming school year , we HAVE to make sure they actually learn
And with some vision and good will (from both government ,teachers and administration ) we may find opportunities to teach the kids in fun creative ways Online .
Let’s try to make it a unique experience and not a terrible experience
As staying at home for so long
Already is devastating
