Opening of liquor shops near residential areas create law and order problems for the residents of those areas. As per new liquor policy of Delhi government , shops can be opened by private vendors near residential areas. As per policy, no alcohol shops to be allowed within 100 metres of schools, religious places. However, this rule is being blatantly violated at many places in Delhi. Liquor shops are being opened near schools, religious places and residential areas. One such example is Lajpat Nagar 1 New Delhi. Here , Liquor shop is opened within 100 metres of 3 schools, 2 religious places. Complaints were made to MLA but our pleas fell on deaf ears.L
Liquor is a social evil which has destroyed many houses and bringing it closer to residents will only aggravate the problem. All anti social elements look to create problems in such areas and can pick up fights with local residents. Once the liquor shops opens, the whole area becomes a mess and unsuitable for families to live in. Women of the area cannot pass though, families feel unsafe with Liquor shops opened in the vicinity.
