Why this petition matters

solid waste is something which is generated from each household, each commercial establishment, each public space and practically each space where humans are. With time the quantity of this waste is only increasing. There are developments which are happening in all zones of life apart from the way the waste is collected and transported.

we are still using the old age system of manual collection and open transportation of waste either through carts, trucks or any such vehicle. This not only spread infection, germs, lots and lots of bad odor, but also while transportation waste flies off these carts and trucks and makes a bigger mess on the roads in the localities. The people and companies working towards this are not sensitive towards this. This waste flying off these trucks can be a possible reason for accidents also on the road as it might disturb cars or 2 wheeler vehicles. My friend was traveling on his bike when a plastic bag of waste fell off the truck and hit him on his face, he fell down and had an accident. Was bed ridden for 3 weeks. Luckily he survived but not everyone maybe lucky each time. For this a new law was passed under motor vehicles act from 2nd November 2018 which asked all material to be transported in closed trucks only, but unfortunately even after almost 1 years no improvements are seen. It is time that instead of these rules which is on the mercy of some implementors, we introduce new systems, system which are not dependent on its implementors and show the rest of the cities the way forward.

This antique and inefficient system of open transportation of solid waste should be changed to automatic underground pneumatic pipes (like sewerage pipes). These pipes have vacuum system which means this waste will travel at around 100kms/hr in underground sealed pipe network to its collection or treatment station. Dustbins can be connected to this underground pipe network and as soon as the dustbins are filled, the waste automatically is sucked in the pipe network and no one will have to go to these dustbins to empty them. Once it reaches its specific collection or treatment station, it should be treated there itself into compost. All the smart and developed cities of the world like Singapore, Seoul, Barcelona, New York, etc are using such systems for even last 35 years but we in india are unable to implement such systems which will make our city more organized, environment will become better as no air pollution from these waste trucks, traffic and accidents from such trucks will be eliminated, odor from waste will be eradicated as it’s a sealed system, nuisance of flying waste on road will be eliminated, world class system will be implemented and our future generations will have a better system in place rather than an antiquated system of truck transportation to follow.

i would request the CM of delhi to implement this system for our beautiful city.. I understand this cannot be implemented in one go for the full city but we need to start from somewhere. You may start with our very own chandni chownk or Connaught place (inner middle and outer circle) and declare the same as waste truck free areas’s (like sometime ago on Sundays it was vehicle free).
