Within America's predominant two party system we have primaries set up for individuals who are affiliated with a certain party to elect candidates from said party. In Delaware primaries are closed. What does this mean? In America you have a choice to be affiliated with the Republican or Democratic parties when registering to vote. The option of remaining independent is also there, however this is where things get complicated. In Delaware you MUST have a party affiliation in order to select from said party's candidate pool. In other words, you cannot remain independent while participating in these primaries. 

   The big push behind this petition is for citizens of Delaware to have complete and absolute choice of all candidates regardless of party affiliation. If citizens are to feel truly empowered to select the right candidate for them, why force them into selecting only one party's candidates? If we are truly about change, the starting point for Delaware is giving it's citizens the right to choose from any candidate willing to throw their hat into the political ring. Why settle for a candidate in one party, when there could potentially be several individuals worthy of a selection? 

   Citizens of Delaware, lets unite to enact real change in our own elections, as well as our national ones. If we can give Delawareans real options, and truly select the candidates we want to represent us, then we can take small voter freedoms that could, hopefully, have a larger impact. Having true freedom of choice allows Delawareans to educate themselves about what each party, and candidate, can offer all while remaining unaffiliated. Times are different, and now more than ever the citizens of Delaware need to have this option. Lets open up these elections, and get some small tangible change in this great state!
