Put HB50 On The Agenda For A Full House Vote On The Veto Override

House Bill 50, the Delaware opt-out legislation that honors a parent's right to opt their child of the Smarter Balanced Assessment, is not dead. It is in limbo, sitting in your desk drawer Speaker Schwartzkopf. You put this bill on the House Ready List, but only you can put it on the agenda. We want a full House vote on the override of Governor Markell's veto of the legislation that passed overwhelmingly last year in the Delaware House and Senate. Let me add, you voted yes for this bill twice.
We would like this on the agenda when the General Assembly returns from recess on March 8th. As parents and citizens, we want our voice heard again by our elected officials. Already, a month away from the next round of Smarter Balanced, certain schools are already giving parents a hard time over their choice to opt their child out. This has to stop and House Bill 50 would make this happen.
Parents have inalienable rights when it comes to their child's education. We want our legislators to codify those rights with their vote on the veto override. We do not want our voices stifled or hushed and we believe that is not only shameful, but unconstitutional. The Delaware General Assembly needs to finish the job they began when the vast majority of them voted yes for House Bill 50.
