In Delaware, Sexual Assault crimes happen every day. We, as a state, need to stop this.

In Delaware, for every 100k individuals, 31 people have been Sexually Assaulted. Overall, 11.8% of Delaware adult women have been sexually assaulted during their lifetime. Despite not having the highest rate in the US, this is still a major problem

SA happens at colleges all around Delaware. According to the 2020 Annual Report Campus Sexual Assault in Delaware, “There were 19 campus reports of rape, 16 campus reports of non-consensual genital contact, and 43 campus reports of non-consensual sexual or physical contact”. The University of Delaware has had many past cases of SA, they received 254 sexual misconduct claims from 2017-2019. Only 29 cases were investigated and only 14 cases were found guilty. SA is happening all over the state to teenagers, young adults, and older adults. If schools aren't safe for students, then where else is safe?

I am asking for awareness of this crisis. SA has affected thousands of lives and preventing it in Delaware would be a huge step towards stopping it worldwide. Signing this petition would bring awareness to the sexual assault crisis and stop SA from happening. John Carney can help this crisis in Delaware by providing classes to prevent SA (Self-defense, educational), enforcing correct examination in court cases, etc.
