Delaware: Fight for Clean Air with Senator Carper
Unhealthy levels of air pollution affect 4 in 10 Americans and 100 percent of Delawareans. And there are over 18,000 asthmatic children living in areas of poor air quality in the First State. Despite these shocking statistics, some in Washington are trying to pass legislation that would stop regulation of this harmful pollution.
Delaware has already made great strides in cleaning up its own pollution, but is located at the end of "America's tailpipe." That means that dirty emissions from cars and power plants drift east, causing pollution that Delaware cannot stop or regulate. Downwind states can only do so much without the cooperation of upwind states.
That’s why we need a national approach to cleaning our nation’s air. Senator Tom Carper is the Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Clean Air and stood up against attempts by Sen. James Inhofe (R-Ok.) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from regulating harmful pollution from our nation's power plants. This harmful legislation would prevent the EPA from tackling cross-state air pollution, which adds soot and smog to Delaware's air.
We need strong protections to make sure everybody is doing their part to stop dangerous air pollution. Stand with Senator Tom Carper and help defend the Clean Air Act and the ability of the EPA to regulate harmful pollution that impacts our health and well-being.
Dirty emissions cross state lines and cause unhealthy air pollution downwind in states like Delaware. We need strong protections to make sure everybody is doing their part to stop dangerous air pollution, not attempts to rollback existing regulation.
I stand with Senator Tom Carper and help defend the Clean Air Act and the ability of the EPA to regulate harmful pollution that impacts our health and well-being.
