A ban, in Delaware, on pesticides that contain the chemical neonicotinoid, which endangers the honey bee population. We can tell that the honeybee population is in danger because since 2006 their population has dropped by 40% and US beekeepers lost nearly 40% of their honeybee colonies this winter. It is worth trying to stop the rapid decline in the bee population. The southern part of Delaware has a very strong agricultural presence, meaning the economy heavily relies on crops which need pollinators, which bees make up a large part of, to grow.
Banning neonicotinoid would help solve the problem because it allow bees to pollinate crops without them being killed by neonicotinoid. Along with bees, neonicotinoid kill other pollinators, vegetation, and aquatic life. There also other non harmful alternatives that are able to repel pests without harming the pollinators.
Other places have already started to put this into affect, including the European Union. The EU, which includes the UK, Germany, France, and many other countries, banned the use of pesticides containing neonicotinoid outdoors. If this is being applied in Europe, there is no reason we should not consider adopting ourselves. Everyone should ban together to push to get this passed. Our past had been interlocked with bees and our future will too, so if we want our future to be a good one we need to look out for them.
