Public education is one of the cornerstones of our communities. Ensuring that our children receive an excellent education is essential to developing a new generation of visionary leaders - of new scientists, explorers, artists, presidents, soldiers, innovators, and thinkers. The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is one of the most rigorous curricula that we can offer our children. Designed as an interdisciplinary, advanced curricula and implemented in schools around the world, the IB program is largely considered one of the best curricula a student can receive before pursuing post-secondary education.
Recently, the DeKalb County Board of Education has proposed budget cuts that would eliminate the majority of IB programs in the area. These cuts would severely impact the academic rigor, depth of curricula, and range of education options that we afford our children. In order to ensure that our students are competitive in postsecondary education admissions and ultimately in the global market, it is imperative that the DeKalb County Board of Education reinstate funding for IB programs.
It is essential that our children receive an excellent education. It is our job to ensure that this education is, in fact, excellent.
