Reparations for the Comfort Women of World War II

This petition had 168 supporters

We need to make the world and our communities more aware of how widespread and commonplace sex trafficking is.  We advocate for Comfort Women as a way to spread awareness and to help these particular victims get reparations for having been forced by the Japanese military to serve as sex slaves for Japanese soldiers during World War II.  These women are alive today, though very old, still fighting.  No one should ever have to endure the pain and trauma of sex slavery.  Stand up for all children's safety from these predators and stand up for the women who had their childhood stolen from them.  If we can win this fight, we have taken a significant step in showing the leaders of the sex trafficking industry that their crimes will no longer go largely unnoticed and unpunished.  "Those who do not know history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them." -George Santayana

Our demands:

1. Full acknowledgement by the government of Japan of the crime
2. An official apology by the Japanese government
3. Direct legal reparations to Comfort Women
4. A thorough investigation
5. Prosecution of any surviving perpetrators
6. Ongoing education in Japan's public schools
7. That memorials and museums be built
