Defeat the anti-LGBT Special Access to Discriminate Act in the Tennessee Senate

The Senate State and Local Government Committee voted to support intolerance and bigotry on May 9 by recommending passage of SB632 - the “Special Access to Discriminate” Act.

The SAD Act would repeal workplace provisions recently enacted by Nashville Metro Government that protect employees from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

SB632 will deny employees of Nashville Metro contractors any protection from being fired because they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

Some Nashville contractors do business in Memphis, Jackson, Franklin, Murfreesboro, Knoxville and Kingsport. So the repeal of Nashville's ordinance affects employees statewide.

This ugly bill sends a mean-spirited message that reflects poorly on Tennessee.

Send a message to the Tennessee Senate opposing SB632 and share this petition with your friends by email, Facebook, and Twitter.

Letter to
The TN State Senate
I am writing to ask you to vote against SB632 when presented to the full Senate.

State government sets a bad precedent for interfering in the contracting process of local governments by enacting SB632. Local governments need the ability to set conditions for the use of taxpayer funds based on community needs and values.

I am also disturbed that SB632 will repeal workplace provisions recently enacted by Nashville Metro Government that protect employees from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. SB632 will deny employees of Nashville Metro contractors any protection from being fired because they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. This legislation sends a mean-spirited message that reflects poorly on Tennessee.

I am counting on you to vote NO on SB632. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
