The Senate State and Local Government Committee voted to support intolerance and bigotry on May 9 by recommending passage of SB632 - the “Special Access to Discriminate” Act.
The SAD Act would repeal workplace provisions recently enacted by Nashville Metro Government that protect employees from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
SB632 will deny employees of Nashville Metro contractors any protection from being fired because they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.
Some Nashville contractors do business in Memphis, Jackson, Franklin, Murfreesboro, Knoxville and Kingsport. So the repeal of Nashville's ordinance affects employees statewide.
This ugly bill sends a mean-spirited message that reflects poorly on Tennessee.
