Why this petition matters

2022-05-11 We are a small group of boat owners, masters of vessels, captains of pleasure crafts and live-aboard people with 8 beautiful sailboats anchored in the waters of Deep Cove, BC. From last year and in recent days, we face eviction notices from The District of North Vancouver. The park rangers handed us WARNING NOTICES for Wharf and Anchor Regulation BYLAW 8450.

However, the government dock has a sign with Wharf Regulation Bylaw 7333, which doesn't prohibit anchoring in Deep Cove. Also, there are two more boats on mooring buoys without any eviction notices. One of the two boats is owned by a waterfront homeowner in Deep Cove and the other boat is owned by the Kayak Center.

It looks like the District of North Vancouver applies Bylaw 7333 to boat owners with real estate and/or business in Deep Cove, BC and targets, intimidates and discriminates the rest of the boat owners with Bylaw 8450.

Therefore we consider that:

1. The District of North Vancouver is in breach of the Human Rights Code for "equality between people" based on our social status as we don't own real estate property in Deep Cove, as well the constitutional rights to be equally treated.

2. The District of North Vancouver is in breach of the Human Rights Code for "rights to live, liberty and personal security" as we use our boats as home, where we live and where we secure our boats in sheltered waters. Moving our boats from sheltered waters jeopardizes the safety of our lives and property. We are targeted, intimidated and discriminated because of our lifestyle.

Please, stop the oppression against live-aboard people. The District of North Vancouver is used to conduct selective discrimination in Deep Cove, BC. We, as boaters are following the International Navigational Laws, from The Hague, which Canada is a signatory in good standing. According to these laws and the nature of navigation, we, the boaters have the rights to anchor/moor our boats in sheltered waters.

Please, sign the petition to stop these warning notices using this fake bylaw 8450 and halt any attempt to eradicate or relocate our boats...
