Keep Cody, the American Mini Pig with his family.
Keep Cody, the American Mini Pig with his family.
Why this petition matters
Amend the Covenant to allow pet miniature pigs.
There is a big difference between livestock swine and American Mini Pigs. Livestock/farm breed swine are large pigs used for the purpose of food consumption and grow very quickly, weighing between 300-700 pounds. Pet miniature pigs have been breed for companionship and maintain a relatively small size, weighing between 50-150 pounds and measuring 14 to 20 inches in height. Mini pigs are affectionate, clean, intelligent, and easily trained family pets.
Miniature pigs are commonly kept as pets, just as a dog or cat would be. Miniature pigs can also be trained and certified for animal assisted therapy programs to perform duties in hospitals, schools, assisted living homes and nursing homes.
Miniature pigs receive yearly vaccines and rabies shots.
I am asking for Massanutten Village residents/deed owners to sign this petition in hopes of having the covenant amended to allow miniature pigs, just as dogs and cats or allow miniature pigs to follow under the category of other small domestic, quiet, inoffensive animals.
About Cody
Cody is a domestic American Minature pig, he is not a farm pig, He is a companion. I have had Cody since he was 5 weeks old and he will be 3 in October. Cody lives in my home, other than coming out to potty, he is fully housebroken. I clean the yard up after he goes potty. Cody is not loud, nor destructive. He is 63 pounds and 16 inches tall and full grown. Cody is a registered pet and went through several weeks of training and testing to become Pet Therapy Certified. Cody follows commands to sit, sit and stay, walks on a leash, goes up and down stairs, and takes treats gently. I take him to work with me at Sunnyside Side Assisted Living Home several times a week where he visits in our Memory Care neighborhood. Cody is well mannered and very friendly.I ask for your support and allow Cody to remain in our home, he is a part of our family.
