Decriminalization of the Lives of LGBT People Worldwide

The United Nations International Declaration of Human Rights applies to every human being. Nations claiming that they have the right to determine the "way of life" for their citizens are passing laws that criminalize the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people as well as those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. In some cases, these laws will permit LGBT people and/or persons who are identified as LGBT, to be murdered without any legal consequence to the perpetrator. Many nations allowed this type of atrocity to go unchecked in the Holocaust and in the ethnic cleansing genocides of modern times. The United Nations is our most powerful deterrent and we must give voice to our concerns in order for action to take place. In the absence of a call from millions of us, nothing will change and LGBT people and those living with and affected by AIDS will be slaughtered and imprisoned without recourse. Regardless of your religious beliefs about homosexuality or AIDS, you are called to recognize the human spirit that animates each of us and to defend the rights of other human beings with the hope that yours will be defended as well. No one is safe when nations can legislate the extermination of individuals or groups based on any characteristic.
